Event Operations on Campus
The university is proud to welcome World Athletics Championships Oregon22 to our campus on July 15-24. The athletics competition will take place primarily at Hayward Field, but event activities and operations will take place across the UO campus. The maps below show areas of use. For example:

UO residence halls will become an athlete village where athletes and team members will stay, eat, and socialize. This is the first time an athlete village will take place at a World Championships. Summer term students will continue to have priority access to residence hall space outside the athlete village.

Many event operations, such as those for broadcast and media, volunteers, medical personnel, athletic training, meeting, and fan services will be based in buildings and outdoor spaces surrounding Hayward Field. The marathon and race walk venues will be headquartered at the Autzen Stadium complex.

The Erb Memorial Union will host the Track & Field Heritage Exhibition of the Museum of World Athletics beginning June 23, which will be free and open to the public. The EMU dining venues will still be accessible to the public.
Teams from around campus are heavily involved in the operational planning for the WCH Oregon22. Under the leadership of the local organizing committee, university experts are leading efforts in plans for parking, transportation, information services, technology, safety and security, cybersecurity, venue planning, ticketing, and more while maintaining a focus on campus continuity.
Monthly Happenings
July
As of July 1, many impacted parking lots are already closed. Peak parking lot impacts start July 14. For a full list of affected parking lots and dates, visit the Transportation Services website.
Agate Street is closed to pedestrian and vehicle access. Restricted access to University Street, Moss Street, East 13th Avenue, and East 18th Avenue and traffic impacts around Autzen Stadium started July 10. Peak impacts around the Autzen Stadium complex will take place during the road race event dates. Traffic and neighborhood information is available on the WCH Oregon22's Know Before You Go webpage.
East 13th Avenue, East 18th Avenue, and University Street will have one-way traffic only until late July. East 13th Avenue will be accessible from Franklin Boulevard.
Competition takes place July 15-24. Flyovers are planned during the evening sessions on July 15, 16, and 18. Event timetables are available on the World Athletics Championships website.
Doug Emhoff, the Second Gentleman of the United States, will be attending opening ceremony events and the first in-stadium medals will be won during the opening evening session.
On July 19 watch the live stream of "Out of the Blocks," a forum working to increase gender equity globally within the sport of track and field.
Nearly all streets and parking lots impacted by WCH Oregon22 are scheduled to reopen on or before August 1. Parking lots 38 and 39 will continue to be restricted until August 20.

What You Need to Know About Campus Operations
Parking
Transportation Services provides information on parking permits, alternative transportation options, parking impacts, and more.
- Summer parking permits went on sale May 16 for current permit holders. Additional information such as parking alternatives and pricing was posted on the Transportation Services website prior to permits going on sale.
- Individuals with reserved spaces that are outside of the WCH Oregon22 security perimeter will be allowed access to their designated space.
- Pick up and drop off parking will be available for parents at Olum and Moss Street Childcare Center. There will be patron access to the Outdoor Program Barn. Details about access to these sites will be provided to parents/patrons as the event gets closer.
- We do not recommend having someone drop you off on the restricted roads inside campus boundaries.
Parking Alternatives
All employees and students are highly encouraged to share rides to and from campus, whether carpooling with colleagues, or taking advantage of free shuttles, LTD buses, or other car-free commute options. We do not recommend having someone drop you off on the restricted roads inside campus boundaries.
- UO employees and students can utilize the free WCH Oregon22 fan shuttle that will operate from Valley River Center starting approximately 90 minutes prior to each published competition session at Hayward Field. More information is available on the WCH Oregon22 Know Before You Go webpage.
- There are increased opportunities for bike parking including bike valets during the event.
- A LTD bus pass is free to all UO employees through the Umo app. LTD also has a park and ride option. Additional information is available on the LTD website.
Traffic
In late June and July, streets in and around campus will be significantly impacted in preparation for and during WCH Oregon22. The traffic impact map below highlights major campus roads that will be closed or have restricted access and dates of impact. Vehicle Access Passes (VAPs) are required for some campus roads.
Major roads that will be closed or have restricted access include East 13th Avenue, University Street, East 18th Avenue, Agate Street, East 15th Avenue, and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Efforts are being made to reduce the duration of road impacts and some dates were pushed back. Facilities
Many UO buildings, including buildings and outdoor areas surrounding Hayward Field and the Autzen Stadium complex, may have limited or restricted access before and during the championships. Some public buildings such as museums, the Outdoor Program barn, and EMU dining venues will be open. Some buildings may only be accessible to students and employees and may required ID card access during regular business hours.
Before heading to campus this summer, check with individual buildings for current hours and accessibility information.
Safe and Welcoming
We are asking visitors and the community to assist us in providing a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Like other large events, there will be safety restrictions in place. If you See Something, Say Something.

Agate Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from Franklin to East 18th Avenue. Starting July 10, Agate Street will be closed to pedestrian traffic inside the secure perimeter roughly from East 15th Avenue to East 18th Avenue.

University Street and East 13th Avenue will have restricted access and be one way, entering East 13th Avenue from Agate Street and exiting University Street at East 18th Avenue. East 18th Avenue will have restricted access and be one way going west from Agate Street to University Street.

Sections of East 15th Avenue, Moss Street, and East 17th Avenue will also have restricted access.
Roads around the Autzen Stadium complex, including Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, will be used for road race events. Expect additional impacts during the days of the road races.

General
When and where will the event take place?
The World Athletics Championships Oregon22 will be taking place July 15–24, 2022. Most of the athletics competition will take place at Hayward Field. The marathon and race walk venues will be headquartered at the Autzen Stadium complex.
Many event operations, including for broadcasting and media, volunteers, medical personnel, athletic training, meeting space, and fan services will be based in buildings and outdoor spaces on the UO campus surrounding Hayward Field.
Will campus be open for summer term instruction and operations during WCH Oregon22?
Yes, campus will be open during the WCH Oregon22. As we prepare and bring the event to our campus, the university’s top priority remains serving students and fulfilling the core mission of teaching, discovery, and service. There will be some campus impacts. The university will keep the campus community informed about what to expect before, during, and after the event.
Some UO departments may have mostly remote operations during July, such as the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance, and Business Affairs, which includes payroll, accounts payable, travel, student billing, and cashiers.
You are encouraged to schedule appointments or make prior contact before heading to an office on campus to confirm in-person availability and building access.
How are members of the UO faculty and staff involved in the preparation?

Supervisors and employees should work together regarding scheduling and on campus work assignments during WCH Oregon22.
Will UO buildings, streets, and parking be impacted?
Yes, while campus will be open during the competition’s 10 day run, the UO community should expect changes in traffic patterns and parking, road closures, and limited access to some buildings. The university is working with the local organizing committee and will share details as soon as possible.
Will residence halls and dining facilities be utilized during the event?
UO residence halls will become an athlete village where athletes and team members will stay, eat, and socialize. This is the first time an athlete village will take place at a World Championships. Summer term students will continue to have priority access to residence hall space outside the athlete village.
Where have previous World Athletics Championships been hosted?
This is the first time this event will take place on U.S. soil, presenting an incredible opportunity for the State of Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eugene and University of Oregon. The three previous host cities for this event were Doha, London, and Beijing.
How many people will be on the UO campus during the event?
The event will feature 2,000 athletes from more than 200 nations. More than 3,000 members of the international media will cover the competition. Approximately 20,000 fans, volunteers and organizing staff are expected to be in attendance during each session of competition.
At what times will the competition sessions be held?
The competition schedule includes 16 ticketed in-stadium sessions at Hayward Field. There will also be free road events taking place around Autzen Stadium and in the streets of Eugene and Springfield — the women's and men's marathons, 20km race walks, and 35km race walks. Who is organizing the event?
Oregon22, LLC is the local organizing committee managing the 18th edition of the World Athletics championships. The World Athletics Championships Oregon22 will be held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, hosted by the State of Oregon, and will be delivered in partnership with USA Track & Field.
Could the university see an increase in cyberattacks due to WCH Oregon22?
With the world's attention on the university, UO students and employees -even those not directly supporting the event - may indeed be targeted by cyberattacks. The information Security Office asks all UO community members to be vigilant about phishing and other scams throughout WCH Oregon22. The new UO Cybersecurity Basics training provides a 20-minute overview of key security actions people can take.
Will mail services be impacted by WCH Oregon22?
University of Oregon Campus Mail Services will continue to pick up and deliver campus mail as previously arranged daily though some route times may vary due to road impacts during WCH Oregon22. Additional information can be found on the Mail Services website.
What COVID-19 protocols will be in place?
World Athletics and the local organizing committee have COVID-19 procedures and policies in place following local and state guidelines.
Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Oregon Health Authority guidelines, Lane County Public Health recommends individuals wear a mask when indoors to prevent COVID-19 due to current local transmission rates. WCH Oregon22 event organizers encourage the use of masks in all indoor spaces including public bathrooms and transportation.
Wearing a mask indoors when around others is an effective personal strategy for reducing the risk of COVID-19. KN95 masks are available on campus to UO students and employees at these locations.
I need a COVID-19 test for travel requirements. Can I take a test at the UO?
No. The UO's Monitoring and Assessment Program (MAP) does not offer travel or rapid testing. Test results from MAP can take 2-4 business days. Lane County Public Health provides a list of testing sites in the community, including commercial COVID-19 test providers who administer pre-travel screen tests.
How should facility concerns be reported during WCH Oregon22?
To report a non-WCH Oregon22 facility related concern, employees should use the regular channels already in place.
From 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. cal work control (6-2319) or use the Call Log. After hours call the Security Operations Center (SOC) (6-2919, Press 2).

Parking will be impacted across campus as we prepare for and during the event. Approximately 1/3rd of parking spaces on campus will remain available for UO employee and student permit holders.
If coming to campus during this time, consider using an alternative to a single occupant car such as biking, LTD buses/public transportation, carpooling, or walking.

Will shuttles be available for employees? Will there be a fee to use them?
UO employees and students can utilize the free WCH Oregon22 fan shuttle that will operate from Valley River Center starting approximately 90 minutes prior to each published competition session at Hayward Field.
Some days there are morning and afternoon competition sessions, while other days have afternoon sessions only. Check WCH Oregon22 event timetables for daily session times.

My reserved parking space is within the restricted access area. How will I access my reserved parking space?
Transportation services will email Vehicle Access Pass information to departments and individuals with reserved parking spaces. The pass will allow you to enter most restricted areas during the event.
I need to drive on campus for university business or to access my childcare center during the event. How will I be able to enter the restricted access area?
Individuals who need to use restricted roads for university business will receive Vehicle Access Passes (VAPs).
A traffic control manager will be stationed at East 13th Avenue to check access passes and provide access to people with university business.
The Olum and Moss Street Childcare centers will work with parents to provide VAPs and information for pick up and drop off.

Will I be able to pick up or drop off equipment at the Outdoor Program Barn?
Yes. Outdoor Program patrons will be able to access the barn to pick up or drop off gear. The process and protocol will be shared directly by the Outdoor Program with patrons.
I'm planning to bike to campus. Where can I find more information about bike parking?
All existing UO bike parking locations outside the designated WCH Oregon22 security perimeter will remain available for bicycle riders. For up-to-date information about bike parking locations on campus, please see the Transportation Services’ webpage.
Additional bike valet locations will be available during the event and will be located near the EMU area. Exact locations will be provided prior to the event.
Can I park in the 13th Avenue garage and how should I access the garage?
The 13th Avenue garage will accommodate UO permit holders and visitors until July 13. To access the 13th Avenue garage between July 10-13, a VAP is not required, though road closure signs will be posted along adjacent streets.
Vehicles traveling to the garage must enter the area via the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and East 13th Avenue and turn left into the parking garage. To exit the garage, vehicles must turn right (eastbound) on East 13th Avenue upon garage exit, and leave the area via Franklin Boulevard heading eastbound. Access to the garage via Agate Street will not be available during this time.

Building Access
Will I be able to access campus buildings?
Buildings and outdoor areas surrounding Hayward Field and the Autzen Stadium Complex will have limited access before and during the event. Many public buildings such as museums, the Outdoor Program barn, and EMU dining venues will be open. Some campus buildings, such as the Science Complex and Knight Campus, may only be accessible to students and employees and may require ID card access during regular business hours.

I'm a UO employee or summer term student. What should I know about access to academic buildings during WCH Oregon22>
The university is open for summer term and our top priority remains serving students. Some buildings may have different hours or access instructions during WCH Oregon22. An ID card may be required to enter or the building may be closed and an alternate service location provided. Check with specific buildings such as UO libraries of the Student Recreation Center before visiting.
Buildings within the Science Complex including Knight Campus will be restricted from July 14-25. Faculty and staff can use ID cards to access the buildings. UO students with classes within these buildings will be provided ID card access to enter the buildings for their classes. Anyone with a UO ID card can enter the Price Science Commons. These buildings include: Columbia, Knight Campus, Klamath, Lawrence, Pacific, Willamette, Onyx, Streisinger, LISB, Deschutes, and Huestis.
Can I access the Student Recreation Center during WCH Oregon22?
The Student Recreation Center is being utilized as part of the event and will be closed to the public from July 12-24. Old Town/Esslinger will remain open via alternative access and Group Fitness will continue to operate on the summer schedule.
